The idea of this contest is very simple:
Draw on any available surface, as long as it isn't paper.
See the details of the [#THEME].

<img:stuff/2237_wiki_help_9y7vcgcflr5.jpg>

Rules:

1. NO STOLEN ART!
Images must be created by Elftowners and posted here by the original artist. Which means, no matter how much you might like a particular image on somebody's house, you are not allowed to add it here. This includes random images from the net too. MAKE YOUR OWN DARN IMAGES, DON'T STEAL THEM AND TRY TO CLAIM THEM AS YOUR OWN! That makes us angry, very angry indeed.

2. QUALITY ISSUES
Please put forth your best effort and the best quality, i.e.
- no bad pictures or scans of your doodles
- your doodles don't have to be newly made, old doodles will also be accepted
- doodles must show it took some effort to create. A doodle is still a drawing or sketch, so it requires more than a few lines randomly placed.

3. EACH MEMBER MAY SUBMIT TWO (2) ENTRIES.

4. ALL IMAGES MUST BE UPLOADED TO ELFTOWN!
To upload your image full-size you can use the feature 'Upload a folder of images' that is shown on your house.
This feature allows you to upload one, multiple images or zip-files in their original size to a wikipage.
<URL:upload_zip.html>
Once you click this link you can follow the instructions. See also uploading images.

5. SUBJECT MATTER AND MEDIUM
Since the winners will be featured on Mainstreet, entries that include graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only entries that fit the theme will be allowed.

All applicable mediums will be accepted.
No photography, photo-manipulations or animations.

6. PROOF
If the doodle is on a surface that looks like paper, you should also submit a proof photo showing what exactly it's drawn on.

2007-07-25 [Linderel]: This is wanting attention xD
Maybe now that I'm not bogged down by entrance exam stuff I can actually continue with it, if the idea is still attractive.

2007-07-25 [Sunrose]: It was in the planning, not specifically on dates..but it's been put on the conteslist :)

2007-07-25 [Linderel]: Yeah but the rules need to be poked at and such :o
And I hate half-done things. <_<

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: I have edited a bit, I'd like to start it up if that's OK :)

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: Ok :o Sorry I didn't get around to it after all <_<

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: That's okay, but do you think the rules are good to go now? :)

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: Yah, looks fine to me :3

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: Cool ^^'

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: Shall we pronounce it opened then? :o

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: Yah, it is in the news now =P

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: Darn. I wanted to do that. :P

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: Ack >_>

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: Oh well. I'm claiming the announcement of the winners then :P

2007-08-14 [Sunrose]: Okay =P

2007-08-14 [Linderel]: xD

2007-08-15 [Nocternity S.]: hmm very interesting, i have some pants i painted but i dont have a camera anymore until next month, and i've always wanted to paint a wall :) oh this makes me exited much :)

2007-08-16 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Ooh. This is neat. I've drawn on people's walls before. I wonder if I could go back and take pictures... lol ^^

2007-08-16 [Kahri]: Can we use whatever we can find as a drawing tool as well? Like using a stick in the sand or dirt, or creating a water drop design?

2007-08-16 [Mekashef]: The following is a nitpicky, academic comment on the theme statement:

"Pulpit", in common English usage, refers to the elevated platform, lectern or stand from which ministers of the Christian churches preach during sermons. Whereas I do suppose it might be possible for someone to doodle on a pulpit, I think the author of the statement probably intended "desk." The confusion may have stemmed from "pulpit"'s resemblance to certain foreign words for "desk", like the French "pupitre" or the German "pult".

2007-08-16 [Linderel]: My bad. We call the desks in a classroom 'pulpetti', so... Oh, well. Thanks for nitpicking. Changing now. :)

2007-08-16 [Sunrose]: I didn't know what it was really, I thought maybe it was above my intelligence :P

2007-08-16 [Nocternity S.]: the only reason why i knew what it was its bc i used to have a friend that always used to call desks that way

2007-08-16 [windowframe]: I thought it was supposed to be a joke.

2007-08-16 [Sunrose]: Oh well :P

2007-08-16 [Linderel]: No joke there, just a serious brain glitch. <_< *shoots self*

2007-08-17 [Demon Epona]: A looooong time ago in 7th grade I doodled a dragon curling around my finger, but I don't have a very good photo of it. u.u;

2007-08-17 [windowframe]: Shame, I was quite taken with the idea of doodling on a pulpit. :P

2007-08-17 [Linderel]: Well, who's stopping you? xD

2007-08-17 [windowframe]: God will smite me. ._.

2007-08-17 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: I like this idea! :D Who came up with it?

2007-08-17 [Linderel]: I'm quite sure it was [Hedda].

2007-08-17 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: Oh. The Tom of Elftown. haha

2007-08-17 [Linderel]: Yeah. I just took the initiative of making it into an actual contest, with help from [Sunrose]. :)

2007-08-17 [ally]: "The Tom of Elftown." That's a horrible thing to say. And I hate myself for knowing that -_-

2007-08-18 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: LOL... oh come now. Nothing is worth your hatred less than your own self. And myspace doesn't really deserve it either. Why bother? And are you sure you understand why you hate it?

I'm getting off topic. Sorry everyone... feel free to message me at my house.

2007-08-18 [Iske]: hey .. does a drawing on a snowy window of a car count as drawing, or is that too photo-ish

2007-08-18 [Sunrose]: Hmm I think [Hedda] should get his ass over here and decide over matters like this :p

2007-08-18 [Iske]: hahahaha, i know it is not really doodling , but i saw that frontwindow and i had to draw on it... I always contect doodling with hanging on the phone.. maybe i need to check my phone desk .. lol

2007-08-18 [Hedda]: As far as I can tell from the rules, it should be some accidental art made when you're out of paper. Going out to make art in the snow, in the sand or carve on trees just isn't doodling.

2007-08-18 [Sunrose]: Well true, but on the other hand it was also the intention to see art on different surfaces..or something..: [428123 (Unknown or private posting)]

2007-08-18 [Iske]: so maybe it can then , the carwindow drawing??? Wat moeilijk allemaal (how difficult lol)

2007-08-18 [Hedda]: I'll put up a poll to see what people want. I think we kind of are missing the point if we allow frescos or other art specially designed for that non-paper.

2007-08-18 [Iske]: that's a good idea

2007-08-18 [Iske]: but drawing with your finger on a snowy window is not a fresco maybe a frisco... bad joke i know

2007-08-18 [Hedda]: So drawing in the sand or in the snow, would be B in the poll.

2007-08-18 [Iske]: owwwwwwwwww and i just aswerd A
when i think off doodling i think of making drawings unconcentrated
when you feel like it, and it can be on paper but that's out of the contest, It is not on paper..

2007-08-18 [Nocternity S.]: yeah but most times when you draw something accidental you dont usually take a picture of it, unless you plan it like on this situation... then you would prolly think of what your doing a little bit more.

2007-08-18 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: " - doodles must show it took some effort to create. A doodle is still a drawing or sketch, so it requires more than a few lines randomly placed. " some effort to create on any surface other than paper.

2007-08-18 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: I have a problem with point C in this poll...

Where do you draw the line between drawing on your skin in class and a tattoo? How can you tell the difference once the photo is submitted? And wood carvings are clearly not a doodle as I am to understand that that requires a sharp object, not ink... or pencil. I understand a doodle to be something drawn.

So, ok... graffiti should not be included as well as painting and sculpture. (maybe we should have a graffiti contest in the future, that could be neat.)

But how is a tattoo or skin drawing not "a surface not well-suited for art?"

Jeeeze, Elftown might need a lawyer someday.

2007-08-18 [windowframe]: I thought it would be fairly clear that carving wouldn't count as 'doodle' but then I thought about it - have you ever walked into an old church, and seen all the graffiti on the pews? people's names, initials, symbols, etc. I think if someone asked me, I'd possibly apply the word 'doodle' to that. Which means that at least some form of carving counts as a 'doodle'. However - I wouldn't count a full carving as a doodle, because of how much fore-planning it takes. To me, doodles are unplanned things. I have no problem with painting being included - I've 'doodled' with paints.

The problem with the first option is proving that it was indeed drawn in the situation described.

2007-08-18 [Sunrose]: Kind of what I thought on carvings, it's possible to mindlessly carve into something.
But carving an entire figure out of something would take actual focus I'd say..unless you're awesomely gifted I suppose.

2007-08-19 [Iske]: a tattoo you don't doodle :) that would be fun... it's is a well picked out design most off the time... (i hope lol)

2007-08-19 [windowframe]: UNless you design it yourself, and are doodling, and find you quite like one of your doodles.

2007-08-19 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Sharpies... I use sharpies to doodle on people all the time. I used to do it in school, and I did it to my friends because they wanted me to draw on them, lol. Sounds strange, but it's not a tattoo, but a doodle... on skin... or maybe a 'trial' tattoo.

2007-08-19 [Demon Epona]: << Whoa... XD! IT'S TENSHI!!!! XD! Fancy meetin' you here. <<?

2007-08-20 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Well, hi, Epona! I've never done a contest, so I decided to try at it. ^^ And I'm about to upload my doodle!

2007-08-20 [jbrown]: can you use other mediums? some1 plz email phonejeffnow@hotmail.com

2007-08-20 [Akayume]: Yes. Tattoos are generally perminate, right?
If you draw with a pen, marker, or sharpie, it'll wash off sooner or later...

2007-08-20 [BinaryPhoenix]: <img:stuff/mood7-gif.gif> Most doodles I draw are in my Diary or notebook during meetings. Or on a piece of scrap lined paper. so I guess they can't be entered. I'll have to doodle on something non-paper... <img:stuff/sutN.gif> I wonder if they would look at me funny if I brought in a piece of material into the meeting to "take notes on"...

2007-08-20 [windowframe]: Tattoos are generally permanent, unless you get a semi-permanent tattoo, in which case they're usually semi-permanent. :P

2007-08-21 [Iske]: [BinaryPhoenix] i know what you mean, that's what i call doodling . Lett all the ppl in the room think you're taking notes but you are just drawing without a purpose. Just brain on non-active and hand on, does not matter what it draws.

2007-09-19 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: Ok, I've uploaded my entry.... now what? How do you know I'm competing?

2007-09-19 [Linderel]: Erm, well... you're supposed to put your entry up on Doodle Art entries, page 1.

2007-09-20 [LeafyGreenPuddle]: lol... :P Thank you! I'm such a ditz sometimes.

2007-10-03 [xXxsitting in darknessxXx]: omg!!!!!!!!! i got this oct 2 i have a tree drawn on the side of my computer this is so gay
